Where it all began

The idea for Charlie’s Bookshelf was born from a familiar scene—shelves overflowing with children’s books and nowhere left to put them. Drawer after drawer was filled to keep up with a child’s love of new stories and a parent’s joy in reading to them. While e-books might work for adults, there’s no substitute for the joy and learning that comes from holding a real book in a child’s hands.

With libraries becoming less accessible and inventory limited, Charlie’s mom realized there had to be a way to enjoy the magic of reading without the clutter or the high cost. Unable to find a rental subscription service that allowed families to choose their own books, she created Charlie’s Bookshelf.

Charlie’s Bookshelf is a subscription service where families can select the books they want to explore together, have them delivered to their door, and swap them for new adventures when ready—all without leaving (or cluttering) the home. By making shared reading more accessible, cost-effective, and convenient, Charlie’s Bookshelf aims to remove barriers preventing families from creating a literacy-rich environment.
