Where It All Began

Where It All Began
Charlie’s Bookshelf began with one simple ritual: Charlie's mom, Melissa, reading five books to her son every night. By the time Charlie turned five, their shelves were overflowing, drawers were packed, and still, the love for new stories kept growing.
Without access to a library - and unable to find a service that let families choose and return books on their own terms - she imagined a better way. One that would spark curiosity without creating clutter, make reading affordable without sacrificing quality, and keep stories moving from one child’s hands to another.
That vision became Charlie’s Bookshelf: the first children’s book borrowing service where families can handpick the stories they want to explore together, then swap them for new adventures - all without leaving their cozy reading nook.
The story behind
Charlie's Bookshelf Teddy
Our founder's son, Charlie, had one request from the start.
He had a small teddy he carried everywhere and he wanted every child to have one as well. So every first box includes a welcome teddy — a small companion to keep.
From time to time, members may discover a small surprise tucked into their box — a quiet nod to the joy of shared reading.
